Is the customer always right?
This saying is said a lot, is it true? When the customer is always right !!
In the business world, the customer comes first he is the person that responsible for accepting or rejecting the work, also he who decides whether the time is right or not, or whether the cost is appropriate or not, there are many factors we have to consider to decide the right steps through the daily tasks face us.
Is the customer right? Yes, but Not completely right, there are some certain cases we will present it as the following:
- Cost and time: for sure the client has the validity to decide the requirements for the job (task), but some of the customers do not actually know what the work required time and effort unless he has much experience and cooperated with more than one designer and delivered works and projects to his clients.
- Amendment: Yes, the amendment comes from the client either from him personally or from a third party who has the authority to determine what are the most important amendments required before the completion of the design completely and this is also reflected in other teams: contents, marketing, programming departments .... etc.
- The customer is the judge of who will working on his project: Yes, he has the absolute authority to specify the designer who is authorized to work on his project (if he picks the perfect designer with good knowledge to finish the job in the deadline), all he knows that he wants his work to finish and delivery to his clients or as showcase for a third party, the customer must at least had a simple knowledge of what he wanted.
- Project delivery time (sudden matters): Sometimes suddenly there is a necessary delivery for a surprise conference or offering samples to a client.... etc. some things that are out of control and thus we are the designers and other teams try to work together to finish the required as soon as possible.
But when the customer is not right? Can the designer discuss and influence it?
The customer is not a complete human, I know he is a decision-maker, but he sometimes can be correct or mistaken, not every customer has knowledge of what the work required for, so if the designer has good knowledge and persuasion. The designer can influence the customer with direct or indirect opinions, by giving them the shortcut ways to do the task also the most efficient to deliver the job in a timely manner.
So when the customer is not right:
So when the customer is not right:
- Underestimating the cost of design: whenever the work is of a higher quality (not commercial), this leads to an increase in time and effort that affects the designer if it is under pressure, so the customer must Collaborate the designer and take into account the increase in time at the beginning before they start of the project for sudden cases.
- Underestimating modifications and delivery time: Also there are modifications that affect the design that it is possible without exaggeration to fully return it. The customer must discuss with the designer access to the lowest losses and big modifications.
- Take into account that the designer is not a robot: Yes, no matter how professional and fast a designer, but he only has two hands, so this is what makes you think well before starting design or modification, because the planning 50% of the work rate, so plan carefully first.
- Taking into account that the design is on a computer: the computer is a device connected to electricity via the internet :) just kidding. The intention is that you are dealing with programs and devices some problem come up suddenly like: (power outages, program closures suddenly, not saving your work on the program every time period at least every half hour, crash the file, comment Windows for work, restarting, slow computer ....... etc.) And here the customer does not calculate an account at all for these reasons and this, of course, he does not have to pay attention because it's your work.
